PIANO GRADE /CONDITION KEY
NOTE: This piano grade condition key is provided by our supplier (Victory Piano) for each piano listed on our site. All pianos have been initially prepared by our supplier and then we further refine the piano's tuning and regulation to present to you the piano in the very best possible condition for the listed grade. To insure your satisfaction and long term enjoyment, we only accept and present to you pianos with a condition grade at or exceeding (A-). Also see (Warranty)
BDY (BODY) (TOP)
A+: Almost new.
A: Very few damages on unremarkable places (such as lower side board or toe blocks).
A-: Some damages on unremarkable places, or very few damages on apparent places such as fallboard or side arms.
B+: Some apparent scratches and/or dents on fallboard, side arms, key bed, and/or key slip.
B: More apparent scratches, dents, and/or light paint cracks on surface (more damages compared with B+).
C: Numbers of scratches, dents, and paint cracks on the surface with larger sizes.
- On pianos with this low grade, its surface tends to be lack of its gloss.
D: Serious damages with broken parts.
- Pianos belonging to C or D are usually very old.
- Pianos with C to D need to be repaired for sale (suitable for piano retailers which own workshops).
- The word R in front of BDY condition (example: RA+, RA-) indicates that the piano has been polished and waxed.
- Pianos with grade A's (A+, A, and A-) can be highly glossy with extra polish.
KEY (WHITE & BLACK KEYTOPS, AND WODDEN PARTS) (TOP)
A+: No damage.
A: Slight yellowish colorization on keyfronts, some spots on wooden parts, and thin keytop flaws on 1 or 2 keys.
B+: Some chipped, flawed, and/or scratched white keytops.
B: More than 10 keys are chipped / cracked, and/or bushing are worn out.
C: Wooden parts on back side of keytops have been damaged due to mouse bites.
- The word C in front of KEY condition (example: CA+) indicates that the piano originally had ivory keytops, but they had been removed due to export regulation. Instead of the removed keytops, we supply new plastic keytops.
PIN (TUNING PINS) (TOP)
A+: No damage.
A: Several pins have unapparent rust which can be removed with light work.
B+: Some more apparent rust which can be removed.
B: More than 2/3 of all pins are covered with rusts, or appearance of thick rusts.
ACT (ACTION) (TOP)
A+: No damage.
A: Some dirt and / or spots on action. Some part of muffler cloth has become thinner.
B+: Light damages by rat and/or moth (example: bitten felts)
B: Heavy damages by mouse, moth, and / or other factors which need to be repaired for proper functions (example: unglued hammer head, bitten bridle straps, rusted strings, etc.).
C: Serious damages such as broken strings.
- The word P in front of ACT condition (example: PA+) indicates optional electronic auto-play (disklavier) function
- The grade with S (example: SA+) indicates pre-installed electronic silent system.
- In case the piano has silent ensemble function, the letters SP come in front of its grade (example: SPA+).
SDB (SOUNDBOARD) (TOP)
A+: No damage. No flaw and scratch on soundboard.
A: One or some slight flaws, ridges, and / or scratches on soundboard which do not affect sound.
B+: Thin gap on soundboard which affect sound.
B: Cracked soundboard and / or other serious damages which affect sound.
- The word K in front of SDB condition (example: KA+) means that the piano comes with an exclusive bench.
ABBRIVIATIONS (TOP)
- N on any grades (NA+): The piano is new (not secondhand).
- R on BDY grades (RA, etc.): The piano is polished and waxed on its case.
- C on KEY grades (CA, etc): The piano originally has ivory keytops. We remove the ivory keytops before delivery, and we send plastic white keytops instead.
- V on KEY grades (VA, etc.): The piano originally has ivory keytops. We DO NOT remove the original keytops.
- R on PIN grades (RA+, etc.): The piano pins are originally covered by rusts. We polish the pins to remove such rusts to bring up the condition to the indicated grade level.
- P on ACT grades (PA+, etc.): The piano has pre-installed auto player machine (disklavier).
- S on ACT grades (SA+, etc.): The piano has pre-installed silent-play machine.
- R on any grades (RA, etc.): The piano are originally damaged or defected. We repair (example: RA-, RB+) to bring up the condition to the indicated grade level.
- SP on ACT grades (SPA+, etc.): The piano has either combination of auto player and silent-play machines, or silent ensemble machine.
- K on SDB grades (KA+, etc.): The piano has its original bench, and we deliver the piano together with an exclusive bench.
